The passenger coaches were originally meant to be the personal railway coaches of the erstwhile rulers of princely states of Rajputana, Gujarat, the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Viceroy of British India. These coaches were not being used by the Indian Railways after independence in normal passenger trains on account of their very rich and traditional interiors.
You will be delighted about your choice - to see Rajasthan by the Palace on Wheels. On board, you will feel like an erstwhile monarch, traveling in regal splendour.

Day One (Wednesday) - Delhi Cantonment
Your dream journey starts from Delhi, the city of ruined forts and rising towers. From Delhi Cantonment the Palace on Wheels is outward bound every Wednesday night for Rajasthan _ the Land of the Maharajas.
Relish the lifestyles of the kings of yore on board the Palace on Wheels, while listening to the silent tales of glory and valor retold by the majestic forts and splendid palaces of Rajasthan.

Day Two (Thursday) - Jaipur
The first stop of the Palace on Wheels is Jaipur, the land of Maharajas, magnificent Palaces and impressive forts. One of the most well planned cities of the world, this capital city of Rajasthan, popularly known as the Pink City, was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, in 1727.

Day Three (Friday) - Jaisalmer
In the heart of Thar Desert lies Jaisalmer, founded in 1156 by Maharaja Rawal Jaisal. The yellow sandstone fort is an imposing sight, towering magnificently in the shimmering sandscape.
The main shopping area of Jaisalmer is Sadar Bazar and prominent showrooms include Rajasthali - the only Rajasthan Government emporium.

Day Four (Saturday) - Jodhpur
A city ringed by a high stonewalls with seven gates and several bastions. This second largest city of Rajasthan, founded in 1459 by Maharaja Rao Jodha, is known for its rock-solid Mehrangarh Fort.
The grand palaces within Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana are impressive examples of architectural excellence.

Day Five (Sunday) – Sawai Madhopur / Chittaurgarh
Sawai Madhopur was named after its founder Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I. After breakfast visit the Ranthambhor National Park and after lunch on board depart for Chittaurgarh. In the afternoon visit the Chittaurgarh fort, lauded in legends for valour and chivalry. Travelers may shop for tie & dye sarees, leather, embroidered shoes, lac- work articles and bangles.

Day Six (Monday) – Chittaurgarh / Udaipur
Maharana Udai Singh of Mewar founded Udaipur. With enchanting lakes and lush greenery, this place oozes with beauty and is a symbol of romance, the most appealing place for poets, painters, travelers and writers. This fascinating capital of Mewar is surrounded by hills and is situated on the edge of three lakes.

Day Seven (Tuesday) – Bharatpur / Agra / Delhi
At Bharatpur we pay a visit to the world famous bird sanctuary, Keoladeo Ghana National Park, the nesting place for thousands of Egrets, Siberian Cranes, migratory water Fowl and other species of birds. Agra is known for its splendid marble inlay work like the Pietra Dura work on the Taj Mahal, leather goods and jewellery.

Bharatpur (Ghana) once the former hunting preserve of the royal family of Bharatpur is home to more than 300 different migratory bird species. Also seen are Chital, black buck, deer and other animals as well as snakes, lizards, exotic fish and monkeys. Lucky visitors can spot the rare Siberian Crane.

The deserted red sandstone city was built by Emperor Akbar as his capital palace in the late 16th century. It was a veritable fairytale city and its "ruins" are still in pristine condition. Also visit the Buland Darwaza the largest gateway in the world.

Visit the impressive Agra Fort, and of course, the most perfect architectural monument in the world -The Taj Mahal which is the mausoleum of Empress Mumtaz Mahal, the beloved spouse of Shah Jahan, who died in 1630. The Taj Mahal is remarkable for its perfect proportion and rich Pietra Dura, with minute details executed with great craftsmanship. The building, often styled "a dream in marble" is said to have taken at least 22 years to build (1631-1653).

Day Eight (Wednesday) – Delhi Cantonment

Dining
The Maharaja and Maharani restaurants offer seating arranged in groups of twos and fours near the windows. Chefs in the attached pantry prepare Continental and Indian specialties, with an emphasis on Rajasthan cuisine.
Bar And Lounge
The bar-lounge is embellished in period furniture, created especially for this coach. The spacious bar has an extensive choice of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages on offer.
At the end of each coach is a separate lounge where passengers can relax when they wish to move out of their bedrooms. Here they can unwind with a book or magazine, engage in conversation, or simply watch the panoramic vista of the great Indian countryside.
Bedroom
Each coach has four coupés, done in colors reminiscent of the state and highlighted by its royal emblem.
Two of the Coupes feature double beds while the other two have twin beds. A third bed, for an additional person or an accompanying child, is in the form of a foldaway bed on a higher tier.
Each compartment has an attached bath with running hot/cold water and showers, built-in wardrobes, overhead and night-lights, piped music, reading lights etc.
